Leupold® Offers 19 Reticle Options in a Variety of Leupold Scopes.
Each is designed to help you achieve your goals in whatever type of shooting you participate. Several reticles are available as illuminated reticle options in our VX-III line of scopes. To learn which reticles are available for a given scope, select your scope of choice from the Scope Selector™ in the Products section of this website. If you don’t see the reticle you prefer listed for a particular scope, the Leupold Custom Shop can install any of our reticles in nearly all of our scopes.
New! Leupold Boone and Crockett™ Big Game Reticle
Available exclusively in the new VX-III riflescopes, this reticle system will help you take big game at longer distances. Not only does this reticle help determine the range, it provides precise aiming points for easy-to-remember range increments as well as wind deflection. For more information, click here.
New! Leupold Varmint Hunter’s Reticle
Available exclusively in the new VX-III riflescopes, this reticle system will help you hit small targets at longer ranges than ever, by helping you determine the range to the target, then providing precise aiming points for easy-to-remember range increments, as well as wind deflection. Aiming points are fine lines, which won’t obscure small targets at long range. For details, click here.
New! Leupold Wide Duplex® Reticle
Leupold designed the new Wide Duplex® reticle with a larger center gate for lightning fast target acquisition, even on a moving target.
New! Leupold Wide Duplex® RE Reticle
The Wide Duplex® Range Estimating (RE) reticle was designed to provide a more open center with the pickets farther apart to allow more unobstructed target viewing area. Since this open space is not the right size for range estimating, a new feature is incorporated in VX-III models with the Wide Duplex reticle to provide a range estimating function. A ranging bracket is located on the lower Duplex picket where a thinned down section provides a notch. To estimate range using the Leupold Wide Duplex RE reticle, place an animal or object of approximately 16" in height in the ranging bracket and turn the power selector until it just fits into this space. After the target is bracketed in this notch, read the numbers on the rear of the power selector ring to get an estimate of the range. “3” corresponds with 300 yards, “5” with 500 yards, etc. The range estimator is available in the following VX-III Wide Duplex models:
1.75-6x32mm, 2.5-8x36mm, 3.5-10x40mm, 3.5-10x50mm, 4.5-14x40mm, 4.5-14x50mm.
Leupold Dot
A Leupold exclusive, this reticle still has a prominent dot like the so-called “floating dot.” But the thinning portion of the crosshair makes locating the dot much easier.
Fine Duplex®
Thinner posts and crosshairs allow for less target coverage, making precision shots on small targets easy.
Duplex
Leupold invented the Duplex design more than 35 years ago. Heavy posts stand out against cover and in twilight conditions, pointing boldly to the intersection. Centering is a snap. The thin crosshairs obscure little. VX-III models use the Duplex reticle for range estimating as well. If you bracket a deer, you can read the range on the power selector ring.
Heavy Duplex
With its heavy posts, the Heavy Duplex reticle is especially useful in low-light conditions.
CPC
The CPC reticle is a steady taper down to a fine intersection. This gives a faster reference than a conventional crosshair by leading your eye to the center.
Post & Duplex
Offering the benefits of both the Duplex and the German #4, the Post & Duplex is the favorite of many hunters.
Target Dot
This is a conventional shooter’s dot, which seems to “float.” The crosshairs are extremely thin.
Crosshair
The conventional crosshair is still a popular choice among shooters because of its simplicity and versatility.
German #1, #4, and Illuminated #4 Dot
These typical European-style reticles are bold and easy to see, especially against tangled backgrounds and shadows.
Illuminated Circle Dot
Designed for fast target acquisition in any environment, the Illuminated Circle Dot reticle can also be used to estimate range. Available in the VX-III 1.5-5x20mm Illuminated reticle model and Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T scopes.
Mil. Dot
Several Leupold riflescopes are available with the Mil Dot reticle, which was designed to help the U.S. Marine Corps estimate distances. It’s now standard for all military branches..

Range Estimating With The Mil Dot Reticle
With practice, it’s a simple system to use. Dots are spaced in one mil (milliradian) increments on the crosshair. Using the mil formula, a table can be created that is based on the size of the object being targeted. Just look through the scope, bracket the object between dots, and refer to the table for an estimated distance to target. Leupold scopes fitted with the Mil Dot reticle include more specific instruction on its use.
